Title of workshop: PostPartum Fitness - A Physical Therapy and Pilates Approach
Workshop description: Women need specific guided exercise programs after having a baby in order to heal and find optimum function. Unfortunately they are often told they can do anything they want after only six weeks of rest. This can lead to confusion, frustration and longterm problems such as separated abs, pain and incontinence. In this workshop you will learn how to use Pilates principles and exercises to create a safe and effective fitness program for women after giving birth. We will cover rectus diastasis, prolapse, pelvic floor health and the exercises that need to be avoided to help keep our postpartum clients healthy. Jessica Valant, MSPT, PMA-CPT, has been a licensed physical therapist and Certified Pilates instructor for 18 years. She combines her extensive experience in orthopedics with her passion for Pilates to create client programs that motivate, empower and give longterm results. This course is appropriate for Pilates instructors, fitness instructors, physical therapists, massage therapists and anyone who works directly with women after they give birth.
