Title of Workshop: Fascial Health During Pregnancy: Cadillac, Chair, & Barrel
Presenter(s): Jennifer Gianni
Workshop Description: In this online Pilates workshop, Jennifer Gianni teaches her concept of how to keep the ever expanding fascial body suit of the pregnant woman hydrated, responsive and integrated throughout the 3 trimesters of pregnancy. Learn how the Deep System and the myo-fascial lines can inform the pregnant body into effective and safe ranges of movement. Observe Jennifer teaching a 3rd trimester pregnant woman who started Pilates during her pregnancy and with a history of neck, upper and lower back pain. The workshop begins with an explanation about why the focus on the fascia and keeping it healthy during pregnancy is important. Anatomy and movement mechanics of the pregnant body are highlighted so the viewer can get a sense of the why of the exercises that are presented. A warm up as well as many sequences in many different directions while using the Sling and Springs on the Cadillac are explained. These sequences are essential to begin to give the pregnant body the feedback it needs to do flexion, extension, rotation and side bending in the just right amount. We progress onto the Wunda Chair and the Spine Corrector which build on the previous sections. These later exercises are more challenging and use less support. The information offered in this workshop is also extremely useful for working with overweight clients, clients with back problems, and the elderly.

Title of Workshop: Pilates Deconstructed®: Side Over Explorations
Presenter(s): Trina Altman
Workshop Description: Side overs on the short box are an excellent exercise for building head to toe strength, stability and balance while laterally flexing the spine against gravity. The challenge, however, is that the only closed chains are the bottom outer thigh on the box and the top outer ankle in the strap. Thus, sensing your place in space (especially from the waist to the skull) can be a challenge even for your most advanced students! But fear not. Join Trina Altman for this online Pilates workshop which will teach you creative preparatory corrective exercises and breath release techniques that establish the neuromuscular connections and coordination necessary to safely teach and practice side overs, side-lying leg work and more. Facilitate the inner illumination of your side seams from pinky finger to pinky toe. Important pit stops along the way will fortify lateral hip stabilization, scapular stability, and enhanced breath function. Presenter(s): Wendy Arbuckle
Title of Workshop: Cultivating the Biointelligent Body
Workshop Description: Join Wendy in this online Pilates workshop designed to explore a biointelligent view of “core” …as a whole body coordination …from your foot, leg, hand, arm and head to your “breathing spine”…along with a new, updated view of your Pilates “Powerhouse”, from an embodied perspective. You will learn valuable “embodied touch” cues, and watch the model's body release old patterning that created tendonitis and plantar fasciitis, through valuable awareness building movements using a Pilates mat, Reformer, Cadillac, Chair and High Barrel. We all know that listening to your body is so valuable, and now you will see profound changes as they happen. In Pilates, we often teach that “core control” involves hardening the abdominals, which is like driving your car with the “parking brake” on...treating your body like a biomechanical machine to be trained and fixed. When we learn to “yield” and “let go” into gravity’s support, we are no longer “doing something TO our body”. Instead, we are having a powerful “conversation WITH our body” that allows excess tension to release, your natural respiratory rhythm re-sets, and your body awakens to its biointelligent wisdom. When we awaken to the embodied wisdom of our Biointelligent Body, we nurture a relationship with gravity and spatial orientation that is fundamental to knowing who we are, and where we are located in both our internal and external worlds. It is only through the physical body that we can experience this felt sense, which is “spatial medicine”.

Title of Workshop: Vestibular System Function & Balance

Presenter(s): Elizabeth Larkam
Workshop Description: These comprehensive movement sequences for the Balance Board, BOSU, and Rocker Reformer inform the somatosensory, visual, and vestibular senses. They are suitable for developing improved balance, proprioception, and vestibular function. Session 1 (45 minutes) and Session 2 (49 minutes) provide detailed progressions on the Rocker Reformer appropriate for all levels of clients. The analogous sequences in Session 3 (39 minutes) using only the BOSU demonstrate that this easily accessible piece can substitute for some aspects of the Rocker Reformer. Session 4 (30 minutes) uses the Balance Board to continue detailed progress of balance and vestibular training effective for home practice. Augment your understanding of the vestibular system by reading the downloadable PDF packet and by studying the references provided at the end of the workshop. Although this workshop provides the most comprehensive resource available on the Rocker Reformer, it also demonstrates that informed use of a BOSU or Balance Board can provide effective balance training and vestibular system improvement.

Title of Workshop: Grounding Forces: Supine Neutral Spine

Presenter(s): Casey Herdt
Workshop Description: In this workshop we are going to delve into the world of grounding in its many forms, and see how we can play with this concept on the reformer in supine. Very often focus is applied to the "action" part of the movement, leaving very large holes in the exercises where compensation can creep in. But by understanding and teaching from the concept of grounding, we create a stable platform from which to animate from. This helps to demystify neutral spine and pelvis, and unveils how these grounding forces can change within the exercise, moving from one piece of the body to the other. Mastery of these concepts helps to create better movers from the ground up! Objectives Learn why grounding forces are important in Pilates Learn what makes a good grounder Learn what makes a poor grounder Learn The Law of Three Learn movement theory on grounding principles.

Title of Workshop: Deep Core Crossed Chains

Presenter(s): Ann McMillan
Workshop Description: In these demanding and stressful times, as clients progress they might evolve towards an exercise routine that increases in strain and repetition but that is low in deepening body control and awareness. This workshop provides clients with an environment that instills deep core engagement and crossed muscle chain activation. Advanced (and beginner) exercises are done on the Cadillac, reformer, ladder barrel and mat in conjunction with rollers and rotator discs. Increase your teaching skills by learning to recognize deep core muscle engagement versus superficial muscle engagement in the client’s performance. In other words, spot the cheaters! Learn exercises that encourage deep recruitment to help your clients achieve successful movement outcomes. Adjustable for all populations. The crossed chain work can be useful for scoliosis, the deep core work can be beneficial for fragile conditions and the advanced repertoire can challenge dancers and athletes. This workshop offers an in depth look at valuable repertoire that Ann has developed through years of working with the general (and fragile) population and with elite athletes.

Title of Workshop: Pelvic Floor: Foundation for Support

Presenter(s): Lesley Powell
Workshop Description: The Pelvis: the Ilium and the The Sacrum The pelvis is made up of 2 bones; the ilium and the sacrum. The way in which we organize and stabilize the pelvis can affect the entire body. Poor mechanics of the pelvis can influence the entire body including the neck, shoulders, spine hip, knee and foot. This workshop offers teachers a step-by-step understanding of the anatomy of the pelvis, pelvic floor and dynamic stability through Pilates exercises and functional movement such as gait. Over her years of teaching, Lesley has received many questions from Pilates teachers asking how to teach the use of the pelvic floor. This workshop answers all of these questions by covering a myriad of imagery techniques and exercises ranging from the simple to the complex. Please note that the work contained in this workshop should never be taught in one lesson and that the use of this information depends on the learning curve of your client.
