Start a PMA Chapter!

In an effort to serve its members and certificants, as well as support industry growth and development, the PMA is supporting the development of regional chapters. This initiative is in response to a demand from member and certificants who have expressed a desire to form regional chapters for a number of years.

The primary role of a Chapter is to provide an effective means for:
  • Local networking among Pilates professionals
  • Offering PMA approved continuing education
  • The development of forums that foster discussions related to the Pilates industry
In addition, a Chapter can:
  • Increase the opportunity for member participation in PMA activities
  • Provide a readily accessible mechanism for regional project development
  • Provide a network to rapidly gain member feedback on issues of concern to the PMA
  • Provide a locally effective PMA membership recruitment mechanism
  • Provide improved access to PMA resources, including certification and continuing education credits
The PMA started the pilot chapter based in New Orleans, called the ‘Pilates Method Alliance – Southeast Louisiana Chapter’. The chapter aims to provide activities and support for members in Alabama, Louisiana, and Mississippi. The pilot chapter also serves as a trial run for all of the procedures, documents, and systems inherent in the development and maintenance of chapters.

In 2011, the first international chapter, ‘Pilates Method Alliance - Mexico Chapter’ was formed to provide  a presence in Latin America. In 2012 the ‘Pilates Method Alliance -Southern Africa Chapter’ was formed from a coalition of neighboring countries in Southern Africa.

Forming a PMA Chapter
New chapters are developed in phases. The initial phase requires 4 individuals in a region to meet and form the initial four officers that will facilitate the not-for-profit status of the chapter. These individuals must become, or already be members of the PMA. The second phase requires the recruitment of 6 addtional PMA members to meet the minimum requirement 10 chapter members.

A Chapter is formed once the above criteria is met in addition to the completion of an application, chapter by-laws and approval from the Chapters Committee comprised of members of the PMA Board of Directors.

If you are interested in forming a PMA chapter and want more information on what is involved, please contact Karen Mobilia, Membership Manager, karenm@pilatesmethodalliance.org.
