Shoulder Girdle: A Delicate Balance - ILLINOIS

Date of Workshop:  June 1, 2013
Presenter(s) – Shari Berkowitz
Title of Workshop:  Shoulder Girdle:  A Delicate Balance
Workshop Description: The Shoulder Girdle is a complex system.  When I first started teaching, all I knew was "pull your wings down" and "crack a walnut".  The more I study biomechanics, the more I know there's very little down and no cracking.  It's a delicate balance of bone, muscles, ligaments, tendons...and constant reassessing.  Dynamic Stability is what we're looking for.  Let's spend time studying where we're going with the shoulder girdle and how to get there in Pilates. We'll take time with anatomy and biomechanics, Pilates exercises, common ailments and all of your questions.  Take a moment to review what you already know before the workshop...then we can grow from there.

he New Rules of Posture for Movement Therapists: Whole-Body Biomechanics of Breathing - CALIFORNIA
Sunday, June 2, 2013

Date of Workshop:  June 2, 2013
Presenter:  Mary Bond, MA, MT, CAR
Title of Workshop:  The New Rules of Posture for Movement Therapists:  Whole-Body Biomechanics of Breathing
Description:  This course offers an opportunity to deepen your mind-body connection with Mary Bond, author of The New Rules of Posture: How to Sit, Stand and Move in the Modern World, a ground-breaking work that re-defines posture as orienting activity rather than as body positioning.  The focus will be on embodied understanding of perceptual and biomechanical patterns in order to more accurately body-read patterns in clients, and to more accurately tailor your instructions to your clients’ needs.  This approach is grounded in studies showing that our mirror neurons’ ability to track the actions and perceptions of others is heightened by our own experience of those actions and perceptions. Participants will gain a dynamic experiential template for understanding respiration as a whole-body activity, including relevant bony articulations and myofascial connections. We will then use this new perception of movement organization to refine performance and instruction.  This workshop is third in a series but may be taken separately.

Moving in the Fascial Matrix: From Fundamentals to Flow - CALIFORNIA
Saturday, September 14, 2013 - Sunday, September 15, 2013

Date of Event: September 14th & 15th
Course Title: Moving in the Fascial Matrix:  From Fundamentals to Flow
Presenter: Wendy LeBlanc-Arbuckle
Description: Defining the human core as merely a muscular armature stifles both our dynamic functionality and our human potential.  Core is not a static, fixed place, but rather, a fluid set of interrelationships (all the way from the feet to the cranial base).  I propose that the key to energizing our dynamic core connection is our ability to access a deep internal somatic awareness. To do this, we must be willing to slow down, to notice what is underneath our incessant search for “the answer”, and to openly inquire and explore what’s at the heart of conscious movement.

In this workshop, we will explore MOVING within the context of the 3Core Connections® Perspective, giving you access to the connective tissue/fascial matrix, which supports the muscles, bones, organs, nerves and blood vessels, reaching into every cell of our bodies.
Course Objectives:

  • Discovering the CORE of your feet and legs, your pelvis, your shoulders, neck and hands, and your spine - tail to head…and how they all interrelate vs. a didactic study of independent parts
  • An inquiry into being a deeply intelligent organism that is naturally self-correcting and self-healing rather than a machine to be trained or fixed;
  • An access to “Effort with Ease” and “Energizing rather than Exercising” with gravity as a partner
  •  Embodying a new “language” from the body’s perspective of movement, influencing how you setup a collaborative environment, and communicate successfully with your clients and yourself;
  • A way of teaching and moving, from your unlimited creativity and perceptual awareness, by focusing on “what’s working” or “what’s missing”, rather than “what’s wrong”
