Archival Arm Springs with Shari Berkowitz - TEXAS
Saturday, July 26, 2014

Date of Workshop: July 26, 2014
Presenter(s): Shari Berkowitz
Title of Workshop: Archival Arm Springs with Shari Berkowitz
Workshop Description: As many exercises there are with legs…there are with arms, but they have not been part of the typical material learned in a training program. Why? Because most of the people who moved Pilates forward after Mr. Pilates’ death were dancers and dancer women who concentrate on legs rather than arms. So, much of Mr. Pilates’ arm work was forgotten if ever learned by these people. However, we all recognize the value of strong arms and shoulder girdles. Reaching into Mr. Pilates’ archive of photos and film, as well as work with former clients of Mr. Pilates’, the arms work comes alive again! Let’s use these exercises to enrich everyone’s workout!

Shoulder Girdle: A Delicate Balance with Shari Berkowitz - TEXAS
Saturday, July 26, 2014

Date of Workshop: July 26, 2014
Presenter(s): Shari Berkowitz
Title of Workshop: Shoulder Girdle: A Delicate Balance with Shari Berkowitz
Workshop Description: The Shoulder Girdle and Shoulder Joint is a complex system. When I first started teaching, all I knew was "pull your wings down" and "crack a walnut". The more I study biomechanics, the more I know there's very little down and no cracking. It's a delicate balance of bone, muscles, ligaments, tendons...and constant reassessing. Dynamic Stability is what we're looking for. Let's spend time studying where we're going with the shoulder girdle and how to get there in Pilates. We'll take time with anatomy and biomechanics, Pilates exercises, common ailments and all of your questions. Take a moment to review what you already know before the workshop...then we can grow from there.

Then why aren’t handstands part of the method as a whole? Let’s discover what it takes and work on the progressions to get there. Look, Listen, Push, Pull: Training Freedom and Support in the Head, Neck and Shoulders- "A Movement Science Made Simple" Workshop - COLORADO
Saturday, August 9, 2014 - Sunday, August 10, 2014

Date of Workshop: August 9th and 10th, 2014
Presenter(s): Cara Reeser and Jememy Laverdure
Title of Workshop: Look, Listen, Push, Pull: Training Freedom and Support in the Head, Neck and Shoulders- "A Movement Science Made Simple" Workshop
Workshop Description: Our neck functions to position our head for seeing, hearing, and communicating. Our shoulders are meant to allow our arms and hands to reach, grasp, and push in a large range. Easy enough, right? So why do our clients experience so much difficulty and discomfort in their neck and shoulders? Poor postural habits, learned physical attitudes, and our universal use of computers probably contribute. But, as Pilates and Yoga teachers, are we helping our clients retrain bad patterns or just adding new ones? In this Movement Science Made Simple course we will: • Study the organization of the head, neck, and shoulder girdle in common Pilates exercises and Yoga asanas. • Examine the relationship between the arms, shoulder girdle and trunk in both open and closed kinematic chains. We know poor use of the neck and shoulders when we see it, but what are we really seeing? • Learn simple exercises and gentle hands-on techniques for mobilizing the neck and shoulders and re-patterning their movement.

Presenter(s): Clare Dunphy
Title of Workshop: Reformer Progressions, Variations, and Teaching Refinement

We will explore the intermediate reformer repertoire, along with progressions and variations for different body types and identify key precision points in the basic exercises that must be present in order to safely and effectively advance students. Anatomy Trains in Training - ILLINOIS
Saturday, September 27, 2014 - Sunday, September 28, 2014

Date of Workshop: September 27-28, 2014
Presenter(s): Yaron Gal Carmel
Title of Workshop: Anatomy Trains in Training
Workshop Description: The Anatomy Trains map applies to assessment and person-specific application in all forms of personal training from Yoga to Pliometrics. The recent surge of research on fascia and its response to training is yielding specific 'take-aways' for the world of fitness, conditioning, and training. In this workshop, designed for personal trainers, dancers, Pilates and yoga instructors, we will review the fascia as a body-wide organ system that gets trained, repairs itself, and keeps us together, go over 'what's in' and 'what's out' suggested by current findings, including an overview of the Anatomy Trains Myofascial Meridians, Tom Myers’ revolutionary mapping of the fascial connections through the muscles. The limitations of the old mechanistic way of looking at body movement are becoming very evident. The ‘Anatomy Trains’ maps out the long fascial and myofascial kinetic chains that sequence and stabilize movement. The Anatomy Trains is a component in the body's 'tensegrity' engineering, which operates from a cellular to a macro body mechanics level. This course includes the latest research results relevant to today’s trainer in the construction, injury repair, force transmission, postural compensation, response to various forms of stretch, elasticity, fascial neurology, hydration and aging, as well as fascial pain - all of which are taking place within the extra-cellular matrix of fibers and mucopolysaccharide 'glue' See and feel the various layers and types of fascial tissue, understand all the fascial elements and their properties, how ‘sensori-motor-amnesia’ can rob us of our full potential, how rest is important to tissue health, and how all the fascial tissues ‘hang together’ to make total body movement. Come have a look at the new anatomy!

BodyReading - ARIZONA
Saturday, October 11, 2014 - Sunday, October 12, 2014

Date of Workshop: October 11-12, 2014
Presenter(s): Peter Ehlers
Title of Workshop: BodyReading
Workshop Description: "Seeing is touch at a distance," said Ida Rolf. Learn to see and understand postural patterns in the body, using the Anatomy Trains updated version of her masterful visual assessment. Work smarter rather than harder, by identifying the strain patterns that underlie the pain patterns. The more you can see, the more efficient your work becomes. Develop more holistic strategies for resolving strain patterns and finding the structural ‘keys’ to create longer-lasting effective work. During this course we: • Develop and practice a simple but effective vocabulary for describing skeletal relationships – tilts, shifts, and rotations in the spine, shoulders, pelvis, and legs • Use the Anatomy Trains as a map for seeing the global as well as local soft-tissue patterns that create that skeletal geometry • Develop coherent single- or multi-session strategies based on what we see / feel There is ample time for small group and individual practice, so that you come out of this course with a dramatically improved ability to see, describe, strategize, and unwind postural holding patterns.

Anatomy Trains in Training - WISCONSIN
Saturday, November 1, 2014 - Sunday, November 2, 2014

Date of Workshop: November 1-2, 2014
Presenter(s): Eli Thompson
