Practical Release - NORTH CAROLINA
Monday, March 27, 2017 9:00 AM - Tuesday, March 28, 2017 5:00 PM
Asheville, North Carolina

Date of Workshop: Saturday, May 27, 2017 from 12:00pm to 5:00pm Sunday, May 28, 2017 from 9:00am - 2:00pm
Presenter(s): Casey Marie Herdt
Title of Workshop: Practical Release
Workshop Description: As any good teacher knows, the intent of the Pilates repertoire is not to get to the most advanced movement form quickly, but to truly embody every single phase of the exercise with ease, grace, and agility. This can only occur when time and effort has been placed in priming the body for movement, and focus is continually placed on the skills behind the work. Stones BalanceRelease work is the first step in helping your clients into successful core training within the Pilates repertoire. In this workshop, you will learn how and why various tightness in the body directly lead to compensatory patterning that leaves the body weak, unstable, and vulnerable to injury. You will learn to help your clients break through their typical fitness routine and discover the depth of their strength via increased joint range of motion and kinesthetic accuracy. The simple and easy techniques that you will learn will aid your clients into a more homeostatic baseline and create the step by step process for true change in all of your client’s bodies, ranging from your most advanced athlete, to your therapeutic clientele. This type of tiered approach is what takes your clients from simple shape making in the repertoire, to truly embodying every moment in the movement with complete command and precision. Course covers cutting edge information of the fascial and neutral networks, how to release trauma from the body, in depth look into compensatory body patterns, injury prevention release work points and problem solving.

Balancing the Three Brains - Washington DC
Saturday, April 1, 2017 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM
Washington DC

Date of Workshop: 4/1/2017
Presenter(s): Mark Taylor and Ellen Barlow
Workshop Time of day: 1pm-4pm
Title of Workshop: Balancing the Three Brains
Workshop Description: In this workshop you will explore the relationship between the three intrinsic brains of the body: the head-brain, the brain of the heart, and the brain of the guts. Inviting the intelligence of each center to work in harmony with the others, you will add new awareness to your yoga, Pilates, dance, GYROTONIC®, or other movement practice. Becoming aware of that harmony allows you to re-pattern unhelpful responses to stress, and understand how those responses may limit the freedom of movement between your core and extremities. Based on experiential learning, the workshop utilizes explorations in anatomy, movement, guided imagery, and touch.

Re-Discovering Developmental Movement as Adults - Washington DC

Washington DC

Date of Workshop: 4/2/2017
Presenter(s): Mark Taylor and Ellen Barlow
Workshop Time of day: 12pm-3pm
Title of Workshop: Re-Discovering Developmental Movement as Adults
Workshop Description: Have you ever wondered how movements you learn in your yoga, dance, Pilates, GYROTONIC® or any other movement practice could feel easier, and make natural sense? While we all share a common movement history that progresses from infancy to adulthood, some of the postural habits, movement notions, and injuries you acquire along the way can actually impede your best function. In this workshop you will explore Basic Neuro-Cellular Patterns, as codified by The School for Body-Mind Centering®. Recovering these patterns within yourself will refresh innate impulses that allow coordination to make natural sense—the experience of movement feeling connected, easier, more graceful, and energized.

Presenter(s): Trina Altman

Title of Workshop: Pilates Deconstructed™: Toolbox for Your Reformer Classes

Concepts keep clients coming back for more. In this workshop, you’ll learn how to sequence reformer classes by teaching preparatory movement skills that are a microcosm of more complicated exercises. In this day-long intensive, you’ll learn where and when in a class to add, stir, chop, and mix: • building blocks of the “peak” exercise • demos for visual learners • opportunities for palpating the teacher during a demo • the A-HA learning lightbulb moments they crave You’ll go home with a handout detailing the exercises so you can teach them to your students. More importantly, you’ll acquire the analytical skills to acknowledge the beauty in the “bits and pieces” of any and all complex movement patterns while deepening your understanding of the body.

Title of Workshop: Spinal Extension and Beyond

We will than ask the question “Is there Pilates Swan in every exercise”? We will analyze how to apply the same thought process that we use to teach proper extension of the spine, to improve posture and teach flexion, rotation and lateral bending more effectively. Taking the concept of thoracic extension a step further we will also explore how to safely teach several deep flexion exercises by providing proper support for the cervical spine, shoulder, elbow and wrist joints. During the workshop, you will have an opportunity to participate in an exercises sequence that will solidify your new found understanding of the importance of teaching proper spine extension and provide you with a new set of teaching skills to bring to your clients in private and group settings.

Immersion™ Pilates Aquatics™ Teachers' course - CALIFORNIA
Friday, May 5, 2017 - Sunday, May 7, 2017
San Francisco, CA

Date of Workshop: May 5 - 7, 2017, Fri-Sun
Presenter(s): Jennifer M Stacey, MS, CPT
Title of Workshop: Immersion™ Pilates Aquatics™ Teachers' course
Workshop Description: Become an Immersion™ Pilates Aquatics™ Teacher. IPA™ is a fun, challenging way to explore Classic Pilates in, on, by the water. It follows Mr Pilates' advice to get fresh air, sunshine & work in the water. Learn: gems from Pilates Elders, cues, images, biomechanics, modifications, sequencing, program design, contra-indications. Movement Perspectives™. 5 hours: Mat, Chairs, Reformer. 2 hrs: Cadillac, Ladder Barrel, Ped-u-pol. "I was lucky to try IPA™. I’ve been practicing Pilates for 30 years, teaching for 20. Feeling the work in the water was an amazing experience. My body was able to organize around the central axis & deeply feel the spinal flexion, extension, twisting & side bending of the work. The support of the water made it easier to feel the movement originating from the core. I highly recommend this work for anyone at any level to feel the Pilates work as it was intended." "I had a blast doing IPA™! As a Pilates teacher myself, I was amazed by how well Jennifer translated the Classical Pilates exercises to be done in the water. IPA™ enables you to easily feel your core working, & being in the pool is an especially safe way to exercise. This workout is both fun and challenging for beginning to advanced students of Pilates." "IPA™ was full of “Aha!” moments for me. Doing Pilates in the water provided a slight shift in physics that allowed me to immediately feel the work in a deep way. The exercises felt very accessible & working out in a pool setting is brilliantly energizing!" "IPA™ is an excellent method of doing Pilates. What I found was that, despite the fact I have been doing Pilates for over 12 years, IPA™ requires greater effort to do the simplest Pilates exercises correctly which leads to a deeper level of work for the core muscles. The need for a greater amount of balance due to the board buoyancy seems to exaggerate even the smallest movement, thereby requiring more concentration & doing the exercise correctly. It is a method I strongly recommend."

Embodying Your Living Architecture…Through the Portal of the 3Core Connections Embodied Perspective - MARYLAND
Saturday, May 20, 2017 - All Day
Rockville, MD

Date of Workshop: Saturday, May 20th
Presenter(s): Wendy LeBlanc-Arbuckle
Title of Workshop: Embodying Your Living Architecture…Through the Portal of the 3Core Connections Embodied Perspective
Workshop Description: This 2 day workshop will profoundly alter how you practice and teach Pilates and any other discipline. The 3Core Connections Perspective of Embodied Anatomy is a revolutionary, yet primal, way of being with ourselves. This intuitive perspective enables you to access the innate intelligence of your body, by partnering with gravity and your spatial “biotensegrity” orientation. This potent relationship then allows you to sense an updated awareness of your “powerhouse breath”, which naturally connects the roots of your arms, legs, spine and head through your whole body awareness…expanding your perceptual field. PLEASE JOIN US IN THIS INSPIRING WORKSHOP, where you will: • Discover the embodied timing and patterning that supports awakening your Domes of Uplift through your body’s Lower, Central and Upper Cores…and how they all ROOT THROUGH the GIRDLES to the “BREATHING SPINE” • Experience how this perspective is contributing to the evolving of Joseph Pilates’ vision, and can contribute to any movement or teaching style • Discover how your breath’s “fascial elastic recoil” works with your lumbodorsal fascial support to create whole body presence, internal strength, flexibility and ease. • Discovering the “ankles/knees” and “wrists/elbows” as “kinetic centers” which can amplify or inhibit movement at the Upper and Lower Gravity Centers. • Discovering an updated, fluid, fascial “biointelligent language” from your unlimited creativity and perceptual awareness, by focusing on “what’s working” or “what’s missing”, rather than “what’s right/wrong”…profoundly influencing your approach to teaching and moving in your own practice…and in life. The 3Core Connections Embodied Perspective empowers us to find our own voice and teaching style. In our willingness to learn to listen to our biointelligent body’s wisdom and question our point of view, we open to being fully present with what is happening.

In this course, we will use the model of lumbo-pelvi-femoral rhythm as a means of organizing the legs, pelvis, and low back in whole body movements. This model integrates and improves upon both static models of lumbar stabilization (neutral pelvis/spine) and the Classical Pilates view of spinal mobility (“one vertebra at a time”). As teachers, our tools are demonstration, touch, and language. To be effective teachers our demonstration must be fully embodied, our touch supportive, and our language direct or poetic as needed. Movement Science Made Simple joins current concepts in anatomy, kinesiology, and motor learning with time-tested movement training strategies, giving workshop participants new skills to work with diverse client populations.

Presenter(s): Wendy LeBlanc-Arbuckle
Title of Workshop: Journey to the Advanced Pilates Mat Work...and Advanced Thinking for a Vital Life
Workshop Description: PLEASE JOIN US in this inspiring, challenging and playful workshop as we “de-mystify” the Advanced Pilates Mat Work through your direct experience of how your body’s crystalline fascial matrix can release long held “muscular tension” patterns…enabling you to discover NEW approaches to the most challenging movements! We now know that this network of fascia is not just an organ of support…it is “Spatial Medicine” as it plays a key role in how we organize our biointelligent bodies for movement, adapt to everyday mental and physical stress, and is a storage center for all of the acupuncture meridians which acts like an electrical grid that connects us to our emotions. In this workshop, you will: • Experience how your crystalline fascial matrix supports your muscles and bones in movement, so the most difficult movements become “effort with ease” • Experience embodied awareness explorations…from Basic to Advanced: of your body’s “Hammock C-Curve”, your “Cobra Spine”, how your back body opens spatially to allow lift along the front of your vertical axis, and your Inside/Outside..Lateral/Spiral Support. • Discover how “yielding” to gravity as a partner awakens your natural uplift, and releases tension in your neck, jaw, shoulders, back, hips and joints • Experience a playful approach to the Advanced Pilates Mat Work… through re-setting your nervous system’s primal connections…creating deeper understanding of the Basic to Intermediate Pilates movements. • Discover a fluid, fascial approach to moving and/or teaching that influences how you relate to others …and move in life!

Title of Workshop: MELT Hand and Foot Instructor Training
Workshop Description: The MELT Hand and Foot Instructor Training: New Science of the Human Body is the foundation of MELT professional training and the prerequisite for all further training. MELT Hand and Foot Instructor Training is a 21-hour course that examines the latest scientific understanding of the human body as it relates to alignment, stress, chronic pain, and the negative effects associated with aging. Participants will gain an understanding of the neurofascial system – the interconnectedness of the nervous system and the connective tissue system, which creates a whole-body communication network that serves to support, protect, and stabilize us in motion and at rest. In MELT, we call this system the Autopilot. Discover how the Autopilot works – and why it often doesn't work well, particularly as we age. Learn what you can do to keep it functioning efficiently. Then find out how the MELT Hand and Foot Treatment can tap into this system to improve whole-body connection, communication, and alignment. Learn how to: 1. Improve the body's systems of stabilization, protection, and internal communication 2. Enhance Body Sense, awareness, and the mind-body connection 3. Rebalance the body around the center of gravity 4. Address disconnection, instability, and imbalance in the core system 5. Rehydrate the connective tissue system for improved extensibility, communication, body sense, and Autopilot efficiency 6. Release and reacquire space in the joints, creating a longer, more upright body and improved performance 7. Create a more expansive, elastic diaphragmatic breath to improve whole body function and communication 8. Teach the MELT Hand and Foot Treatments individually and in small groups 9. Workshop Time of day: 12-6pm
Title of Workshop: BODY HARMONICS Core Integrity

In this course, you will learn how to effectively facilitate core control while creating programs that appeal to average people who may have difficulty connecting to the deep inner muscles. We take a global approach to the concept of CORE and analyze both the inner and outer cylinders of support. These Locomotor Slings help produce support and movement for the entire body as they crisscross and spiral the torso. In-depth analysis is followed by observation and experiential learning using specific exercises for each layer, so you leave with a clear plan on how to ensure optimal function while having every client saying "Wow, I've never felt my core work like this before". Title of Workshop: Breast Cancer Specialization Program
Workshop Description: Pilates Therapeutics® Specialization Programs in Scoliosis Management, Breast Cancer, Performing Arts (Dance) and The Foot. Each will be presented in Alameda, CA during the summer of 2017, dates to be announced soon. We are very excited to present again in 2017 to new groups of Specialists! The good news is that fewer people are dying from cancer. The bad news is that the repercussions of treatment and reconstruction surgeries can manifest years past the initial interventions. Initial medical interventions focus primarily upon survival, and not necessarily quality of life. Pilates is a particularly wonderful way for those affected by cancer to pursue balance and full physical restoration. Because of the nature of cancer treatments, it’s critical that instructors and therapists pursue additional training in the effects of cancer in order to deliver not only safe, but also the most effective means to progressing physicality.

Embodying Your Living Architecture…Through the Portal of the 3Core Connections Embodied Perspective - CALIFORNIA
Saturday, July 29, 2017 - Sunday, July 30, 2017 - All Day
Walnut Creek, CA

Date of Workshop: July 29th and 30th
This potent relationship then allows you to sense an updated awareness of your “powerhouse breath”, which naturally connects the roots of your arms, legs, spine and head through your whole body awareness, expanding your perceptual field.

Look, Listen, Push, Pull: Training Freedom and Support in the Head, Neck, and Shoulders (A 2-day Movement Science Made Simple Workshop with Cara Reeser and Jeremy Laverdure) - CALIFORNIA

Manhattan Beach, CA

Date of Workshop: September 16th & 17th, 2017
Presenter(s): Cara Reeser and Jeremy Laverdure
Title of Workshop: Look, Listen, Push, Pull: Training Freedom and Support in the Head, Neck, and Shoulders (A 2-day Movement Science Made Simple Workshop with Cara Reeser and Jeremy Laverdure)
Workshop Description: Our neck functions to position our head for seeing, hearing, and communicating. Our shoulders are meant to allow our arms and hands to reach, grasp, and push in a large range. Easy enough, right? So why do our clients experience so much difficulty and discomfort in their necks and shoulders? Poor postural habits, learned physical attitudes, and our universal use of computers probably contribute. But, as Pilates teachers, are we helping our clients retrain bad patterns or just adding new ones? In this Movement Science Made Simple course we will: -Study the organization of the head, neck, and shoulder girdle in common Pilates exercises. -Examine the relationship between the arms, shoulder girdle and trunk in both open and closed kinematic chains. We know poor use of the neck and shoulders when we see it, but what are we really seeing? -Learn simple exercises and gentle hands-on techniques for mobilizing the neck and shoulders and re-patterning their movement.
