Look, Listen, Push, Pull: Training Freedom and Support in the Head, Neck, and Shoulders - NEW YORK
Saturday, February 20, 2016 12:00 AM - Sunday, February 21, 2016 12:00 AM

Date of Workshop: February 20th and 21st
Presenter(s): Cara Reeser and Jeremey Laverdure
Title of Workshop: Look, Listen, Push, Pull: Training Freedom and Support in the Head, Neck, and Shoulders
Workshop Description: Our neck functions to position our head for seeing, hearing, and communicating. Our shoulders are meant to allow our arms and hands to reach, grasp, and push in a large range. Easy enough, right? So why do our clients experience so much difficulty and discomfort in their necks and shoulders? Poor postural habits, learned physical attitudes, and our universal use of computers probably contribute. But, as Pilates teachers, are we helping our clients retrain bad patterns or just adding new ones? In this Movement Science Made Simple course we will: Study the organization of the head, neck, and shoulder girdle in common Pilates exercises. Examine the relationship between the arms, shoulder girdle and trunk in both open and closed kinematic chains. We know poor use of the neck and shoulders when we see it, but what are we really seeing? Learn simple exercises and gentle hands-on techniques for mobilizing the neck and shoulders and re-patterning their movement.

A New Approach To Pilates:Practical Applications of Nervous System Theory to Pilates Teaching and Practice - CALIFORNIA
Sunday, February 21, 2016 - All Day

Date of Workshop: 2/21/16
Presenter(s): Kim Haroche
Title of Workshop: A New Approach To Pilates:Practical Applications of Nervous System Theory to Pilates Teaching and Practice
Workshop Description: In this workshop, we will explore the autonomic nervous system and its critical relationship to Pilates exercises. The workshop will emphasize advanced teaching skills in areas which are new to Pilates. The workshop will broaden your perspective of teaching and performing Pilates exercises as you learn to read your client’s body and their state of being through the map of the nervous system. Some clients progress easily, and others appear to be held in the same patterns for prolonged periods of time. Often these structural imbalances are rooted in nervous system dis-regulation. Therefore, recognizing when a client cannot accomplish an exercise or movement due to structural imbalances and when the impediment is rooted in the nervous system, will give your work more precision and effectiveness. * Change the way you see Pilates movement and how you teach it. * Understand the nervous system to understand why people cannot perform certain movements and exercises or let go of held patterns. * Develop deeper teaching skills based on cranial sacral practitioner skills * Understand and learn how to use interpersonal neurobiology in teaching Pilates * Learn what it means to change the brain to change the body. * How to recognize the states of hyper, freeze, and hypo arousal and, through a series of very specific interventions within the scope of Pilates, you will be able to help someone come into balance, alignment and regulation. They will then be more resourced to perform movements that were previously not possible for them and to accomplish more advanced work. * Learn to recognize the subtle signs of when a client is dis-embodied from surgery, accidents, falls and brain injuries. * Become aware of your impact in teaching, and understand how you may be helping or impeding a client’s progress after an accident. * Develop greater skills in working with clients with brain injuries.

In this day-long intensive, you'll learn where and when in a class to add, stir, chop, and mix: -building blocks for the "peak" exercise -demos for visual learners -opportunities for palpating the teacher during a demo -the A-HA learning lightbulb moments they crave You'll go home with template handouts detailing the exercises from each one-hour class so you can teach them to your students. Separate But Connected: Training Selective Control of the Hips, Pelvis, and Low Back - UTAH
Saturday, March 12, 2016 - Sunday, March 13, 2016

Date of Workshop: March 12th and 13th, 2016
Presenter(s): Cara Reeser and Jeremy Laverdure
Title of Workshop: Separate But Connected: Training Selective Control of the Hips, Pelvis, and Low Back
Workshop Description: Freedom and stability in the trunk depend on freedom and stability in the hips. In this course, we will use the model of lumbo-pelvi-femoral rhythm as a means of organizing the legs, pelvis, and low back in whole body movements. This model integrates and improves upon both static models of lumbar stabilization (neutral pelvis/spine) and the Classical Pilates view of spinal mobility (“one vertebra at a time”). As teachers, our tools are demonstration, touch, and language. To be effective teachers our demonstration must be fully embodied, our touch supportive, and our language direct or poetic as needed. Movement Science Made Simple joins current concepts in anatomy, kinesiology, and motor learning with time-tested movement training strategies, giving workshop participants new skills to work with diverse client populations.

Pilates Fine Tuning TACTILE CUEING - NORTH CAROLINA

Date of Workshop: April 3, 2016
Presenter(s): Laura Browning Grant
Title of Workshop: Pilates Fine Tuning TACTILE CUEING
Workshop Description: In any form of movement, it is important to understand the body. But, more importantly, optimum benefit of any movement can only be achieved when there is a deep understanding of how the body moves. Joseph Pilates was a tactile teacher and only spoke when necessary. I believe we can learn from his example--knowing how to teach the body to move into proper alignment using tactile cuesis a powerful tool. During this workshop attendees will learn effective tactile cues for all parts of the body that can improve the effectiveness of Pilates movements. Having a teacher that can show the body where it can go can be a new discovery for that body...that is the power of the Pilates Method.

BODY HARMONICS Core Integrity - CALIFORNIA
Friday, May 13, 2016 - Saturday, May 14, 2016

Date of Workshop: May 13-14, 2016 - 12-6pm
Presenter(s): Holly Wallis, PMA-CPT
Title of Workshop: BODY HARMONICS Core Integrity - CALIFORNIA
Workshop Description: "CORE" is a popular (yet misunderstood) buzz word in any fitness environment. Yet, we know a strong core is the key to optimal function, balance and equilibrium. The question remains: how can we best facilitate effective core control, and still create programs that appeal to average people who can't connect to subtle movements and deep inner muscles? In this course, we take a global approach to the concept of CORE and analyze both the inner and outer cylinders of support. These "core systems" help produce support and movement for the entire body as they bend and spiral the torso. In-depth analysis is reinforced through observation and self-practice using specific exercises for each layer. You leave with a clear plan of how to create optimal core function and support with your clients. There are two easy ways to save: 1) Save 10% when you register for 2 or more courses together. OR 2) Save 10% when you refer a friend who registers for the same course. Visit www.reactivemovement.com/Teacher-Training for the current course calendar and to register.

Pilates Deconstructed™: Toolbox For Your Reformer Classes - NORTH CAROLINS
Sunday, July 31, 2016 - All Day

Date of Workshop: July 31, 2016 - 10am-6pm
Presenter(s): Trina Altman, PMA-CPT, ERYT
Title of Workshop: Pilates Deconstructed™: Toolbox For Your Reformer Classes
Workshop Description: Master teachers know that conveying concepts - not just repertoire - in a group reformer class is what truly sets them apart from the novice instructors. Concepts keep clients coming back for more. In this workshop, you'll learn how to sequence reformer classes by teaching preparatory movement skills that are a microcosm of more complicated exercises. More importantly, you'll acquire the analytical skills to acknowledge the beauty in the "bits and pieces" of any and all complex movement patterns while deepening your understanding of the body. 7 PMA CECs earned upon completion
