Title of Workshop: Injuries, Ailments, Imbalances: Working Around the Big Stuff in Sessions and Group Classes with Shari Berkowitz - A 3-Day Seminar
Workshop Description: It’s the rare client who has no aches or pains. Whether in a private session or a group class, we must know how to work around all that our clients bring to the hour. Each hour you teach is a remarkable improvisational performance. However, any great improviser must know the guidelines or chaos ensues. In this workshop, we’ll delve into those very guidelines for issues of the spine, pelvis, spine (including neck), knees, ankles, feet, shoulder girdle, elbows, wrists and hands. We’ll take time on hyper-extension of the knees and elbows. We’ll also take careful consideration with osteoporosis, elderly clients, obese clients, pregnant and postpartum clients. For each area, ailment or special case, we will work through the biomechanical implications working to understand how one compensates and how we seek to rework the biotensegrity. Additionally with special cases, we will endeavor to understand the biochemistry that affects the clients ability in the session. We must know what to watch out for to make wise choices of what to do and what not to do. The full rate for this seminar is $815. It includes the 18 hours of seminars, 18 PMA CECs and a bound manual. Having trouble with that rate? Let's not let it stop you from taking the seminar. Let's discuss. I mean it...email me. There are an optional 4 months of interactive homework projects available as part of this 3-day seminar. Please email me for information.

PILATES - AN INTEGRATED MODEL : THE LOW CHAIR Part II - NORTH CAROLINA
12:00 AM - 12:00 AM

Date of Workshop: 11/23/2014
Presenter(s): Lauren McClerkin
Title of Workshop: PILATES - AN INTEGRATED MODEL : THE LOW CHAIR Part II
Workshop Description: In this 3 hour workshop, we use some of the less common low chair exercises as a platform for examining the ways in which we can maximize the stabilizing aspects that underlie any effective movement. We will teach you an elegantly simple, philosophically consistent approach that will allow you and your clients to efficiently and throughly mine the benefits of even the most challenging and difficult to grasp exercises. This approach strongly emphasizes the idea that any Pilates exercise must begin with a strong, felt sense of the body's lines of muscular integrity before movement can be initiated. In effect, integrity leads us to better movement so that movement can lead us to higher levels of integrity. Come see how it all fits together !

Art of Breathing (Franklin Method): Improve your Pilates Movement Potential! - ILLINOIS

Date of Workshop: December 6, 2014
Presenter(s): Debra Orlando
Title of Workshop: Art of Breathing (Franklin Method): Improve your Pilates Movement Potential!
Workshop Description: The quality of our breathing is essential for our well-being and health. The diaphragm is our most important breathing muscle and has an intimate relationship to our core muscles and organs. The function of the diaphragm affects circulation, metabolism, and the tone of the organs. Understanding good breathing will benefit our posture, flexibility and overall energy level. It is vital that beneath all the Pilates exercises we learn how to breathe correctly. In this workshop, the scientific background to healthy breathing will be taught using the Franklin Method. Participants will experience bringing these breathing principles to Pilates exercises. As Joseph Pilates himself stated “Above all learn how to breathe correctly”; the participants of this workshop will leave this workshop with the information needed to follow this advice

It's Not About being "Good" at the Exercises - ILLINOIS
Sunday, December 7, 2014

Date of Workshop: December 7, 2014
Presenter(s): Debra Orlando
Title of Workshop: It's Not About being "Good" at the Exercises"
Workshop Description: It’s not about being “good” at the exercises. Contrology is achieved in part utilizing the Pilates “exercises”. Often, as practitioners of contrology we tend to focus on getting good at the exercises; not the movement inherent in each exercise. Contrology is a method and the exercises are the form to find the method. In reality, it is not about “being good” at the exercises. It is about living the method through embodiment of your function. In this workshop the Contrology method will be discussed and how it is designed to bring us to “uniform development”. Natural function in our bodies will be scientifically discussed using The Franklin Method and how it is possible to move with natural function within the form of Pilates. Return to Life and Your Health will be discussed and how the teachings of Joseph Pilates support moving with natural function in our bodies. Once natural function is recognized in the body before us, teachers can better strategize their teaching. Participants will go through the full intermediate reformer sequence embodying the human function inherent in each exercise. Bringing our mind to the body will result in Contrology. Participants will leave this workshop with an understanding of human function and how it applies to the Pilates Method. Teachers will have a clearer understanding of what to look for when teaching the Pilates exercises and how to develop a strategy of leading their clients to a healthy movement pattern. The students will leave with a better understanding of what “return to life” means.

April 2015
Pilates & ADHD - NORTH CAROLINA
Saturday, April 25, 2015 - Sunday, April 26, 2015

Date of Workshop: April 25-26, 2015
Presenter(s): Laura Browning Grant
Title of Workshop: Pilates & ADHD
Workshop Description: This course offers both those who teach Pilates and those practicing Pilates an understanding of Adult ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) and the positive benefits Pilates has on individuals suffering from symptoms of this disorder. During this program, participants will learn methods to use when teaching clients that will improve both focus and other ADHD symptoms. Ultimately, proper Pilates techniques learned in this training will offer clients an effective management tool in the treatment of ADHD. Why Study Pilates & ADHD Attention to the issues associated with ADHD has increased over the last decade. Many sufferers of the disorder are searching for ways to manage their symptoms. Joseph Pilates observed that society was focusing solely on furthering the development of the mind and neglecting the development of the body. Pilates understood that the well-being of an individual could only be achieved by engaging both the mind and the body. When used as part of an ADHD treatment regimen, the Pilates method can improve an individual’s ability to focus, thus reducing ADHD symptoms and improving the quality of life for sufferers of these disorders. Laura Grant not only works with clients who have ADHD, but also lives with ADHD. This course provides two perspectives—teaching and personal experience. Pilates & ADHD workshop is designed to teach both instructors and ADHD sufferers how to use the Pilates Method as a tool in the treatment of symptoms.
